EZiDIG is the world’s first excavator mounted buried service avoidance tool. It aims to cut the amount of damage caused to buried services by excavators, reduce risks to excavator operators, decrease project downtime and enhance productivity. Developed by Cable Detection, it sets the standard for avoiding buried services during excavation.

The new EZiDIG, aimed at construction and utility contractors, detects buried services while the excavator is being used. The EZiDIG Sensor unit is attached to the excavator dipper arm and communicates in real time with the excavator driver when it locates electromagnetic signals emitted by buried metallic services up to two metres from the sensor unit, thus avoiding costly and dangerous cable strikes.

EZiDIG uses market standard buried service location technology to locate buried metallic services during excavation. By providing a real time warning of the presence of a buried metallic service, EZiDIG works with the operator rather than against the workflow, keeping him alert to localised threats. In this way both safety and productivity are maximised.

With the introduction of EZiDIG to the marketplace, excavator operators are now no longer solely reliant on pre-surveys by hand held locator operators to identify where buried services lie. EZiDIG scans during excavation keeping the operator alert to threats from traceable buried metallic services. In this way EZiDIG adds an additional layer of safety to the excavation process reducing risks to employees and expensive assets exposed to potential injury and damage.

This is the second award for the EZiDIG, having already won an OPERC award for Outstanding Contribution to Health and Safety for Buried Services in March of this year. Released into the market in February, the EZiDIG is already a massive success story across the UK.
